'Wood, F. - 6576 Driver Frank Wood was 24, single, C of E and a railway porter from Hyde Road, Yeronga via Brisbane. He enlisted on 25th April 1915 and left from Brisbane on 24th May 1915 on HMAT Ascanius A11 with 7th Infantry Brigade Train, 17 Company ASC. He died on active service (“shock and heart failure during an operation” – hernia op) in Egypt and is buried in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, plot D, grave 123. His next of kin was his sister Mrs A.C.H. Watson, Hyde Road, Yeronga, via Brisbane, Qld. CWGC records show that he was the son of Robert T. and Marion Wood and that he was born at Bundaberg, Queensland.' WARWICK, October 19.
News has been received of the death of Driver Frank Wood[s], of the 17th Australian Army Service Corps, in Egypt. Prior to enlisting, deceased had been employed in the Traffic Department at the local railway station. It appears that Driver Wood[s] was the victim of an accident on a transport on the way to Egypt. A kick from a horse resulted in serious injuries, and it was found necessary to perform an operation from which, however, he failed to rally.
