Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Bill was the youngest child of William Henry Marshall (b1886 in Winton, QLD) and Elizabeth Parkinson (b1884 in Yorkshire, England). William was a Compositor in Winton in 1912 when he and Elizabeth married - Elizabeth, working as a Waitress at the Winton Hotel, had immigrated in 1887, arriving in Townsville, QLD on board the Dacca. William and Elizabeth settled in Winton where William was a Compositor and Newsagent. In the late 1920s the family moved to Brisbane where William was a Cafe Proprietor. Following Elizabeth's death in 1951, William moved to Eagle Heights near Southport where he was a Farmer with son Bill. William died in 1973.

Bill had attended primary school in Winton, and high school in Gatton and Brisbane and was a Clerk with Cook's Travel Service in Brisbane, QLD when he enlisted in the RAAF in February 1940. Bill was a Warrant Officer (Service No:8929) attached to 3 Aircraft Depot Amberley when he was Discharged in 1946. Bill was described as 'Very keen and persistent - very good service outlook, bearing and discipline, good sense of humour. Displays good team spirit. Pleasant personality' (June 1943: National Archives Australia).

In Sydney NSW in 1943, Bill married Pamela Catherine Hill Vincent (b1919 in Launceston, Tasmania) - Pamela was working in Sydney as a Stenographer. Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Bill and Pamela moved to Eagle Heights near Southport where Bill was a Farmer. Pamela died in 1964 and in 1970 Bill remarried Elizabeth (Betty) Edwina Edmunds (nee Godwin; b1919 in Wiltshire, England). Betty was a Widow when she immigrated with her three children to Sydney NSW as 'Ten Pound Poms' in 1964 on board the Oriana.

Bill and Betty lived in Eagle Heights before retiring to Mount Tamborine. Betty died in 1997 and Bill in 2006.
