Private Vivian George Knight (Service No:3385) enlisted in the AIF on 26 September 1916 and was attached to 4th Pioneer Battalion when he embarked from Sydney for Devonport on 26 November 1916 on board A72 Beltana. Private Knight served in France and on 23 June 1919 embarked for the RTA on board the Orita. On 17 September 1919, Private Knight was Discharged.
Born in 1897 in Gympie QLD, Viv was the fifth of eleven children of Frederick (Fred) Knight (b1864 in Hampshire, England) and Alice Mary Alder (b1866 in Brisbane, QLD). Fred worked as a Wheelwright's Apprentice before immigrating in 1883, arriving in Cooktown, QLD on board the Waroonga. Fred (a Miner) and Alice married in 1889 in Brisbane QLD and lived in Ipswich, where Fred worked as Miner before settling Gympie QLD in the mid 1890s. Fred worked as a Miner in Gympie.
Viv was a Labourer in Gympie prior to his enlistment in the AIF, and following his Discharge in 1919, he returned to Gympie and work as a Labourer before moving to Mundubbera near Gayndah, QLD where he worked as a Labourer. Viv then moved between Gordonvale nr Cairns, Brisbane and Cairns where he worked as a Labourer. In 1953 he was awarded a Coronation Medal and was a Labourer in Cairns when he died in 1969.
