Albert was a Corporal (Shoeing Smith) with the 7th Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron [a Mounted Division Train]-Australian Imperial Force-Regimental number 512

He enlisted at  Liverpool, NSW, Australia on 26 October 1914.

He embarked at age 21 from Sydney, New South Wales, on board Transport A31 Ajana on 19 December 1914.
