Leading Aircraftman Leonard Harvey Head (Service No:76922) enlisted in the RAAF on 22 July 1942 as an Aircraftman I. He served in Port Moresby and Morotai, and served with No 52 Reserve Squadron and No 2 Mobile Works Squadron. LAC Head was attached to 2 Airfield Construction Squadron when he Discharged on 11 December 1945.
Born in 1907 in Laidley on the Darling Downs in QLD, Len was the fifth child of Henry Octavius Head (b1870 in Ipswich, QLD) and Edith Sophia Maud Marsh (b1876 in Gatton, QLD). Edith had a son (Norman) when she and Henry (a Farmer) married in 1898 in Laidley, QLD and they had eight children together. Henry and Edith settled at Blenheim in Laidley QLD where Henry was a Farmer.
Len was a Labourer in Laidley QLD in 1928 when he married Ruby Stella Maher (b1907 in Ballina, NSW). Len and Ruby settled at Jimna via Kilcoy QLD where Len was a Forestry Labourer and Overseer. Ruby returned to Laidley while Len was in the RAAF and in 1949 they were living near Esk where Len was a Forestry Overseer. In 1954 Len and Ruby were at Tewantin QLD where Len was a Forestry Overseer and by 1959 they had settled in Blackbutt QLD and Len continued working for the Forestry Department as an Overseer. Len died in 1984 and Ruby in 1993.
