It is believed that he died aged 60 in 1954 and was interred in Wauchope Cemetery, NSW-Presbyterian plot.
He was a Shoeing Smith in the 1st Australian Light Horse- 12th Reinforcement-Service Number 1633- in WWI.
His wife was Gladys-he was the son of Robert and Jane Laurie of Wallamumbi via Armidale, New South Wales. He was the grandson of Joseph Laurie of Laurieton and the great-grandson of the Patriarch, Joseph Laurie of Stobo in the Borders region of Scotland.
He enlisted 28 August 1915 and served in Egypt and Palestine.His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A72 Beltanaon 9 November 1915 His brother, Trooper Robert Laurie who, as at August 2019, is not commemorated as war dead. He died 31st August 1918 and was buried at Armidale General Cemetery.
Alexander returned to Australia 13 March 1919.
