Air Commodore Keith Tongue (1925-1999) was born in Dalby Queensland and educated at Ipswich Grammar School. He was a teacher before enlisting in the RAAF in late 1943. In July 1944 he trained with the Empire Air Training Scheme in Canada, completing navigator training at Portage La Prairie. After the war he briefly returned to teaching then worked for QANTAS. He rejoined the RAAF in 1951 and, in 1954-1957 had an exchange posting with the RAF. His subsequent postings were at: Operational Command, Glenbrook; No 2 Squadron Butterworth; the Department of Air; the Staff College; Secretary, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Director Air Force Plans. He also served in Vietnam and the Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation. His final posting was OC Richmond and he retired in 1980 as an Air Commodore.
