In June 1894, Reginald Graham Wyett was born. He was born in Torrensville, South Australia and lived there too, working as a cabinetmaker. Wyett was single and his next of kin was his mother - Ms Alice Wyett, whom he (probably) lived with on Henley Beach Road, Torrensville.
Wyett enlisted on the 18th of August 1915 for the First World War. He was 21 years and 3 months old, 5'6 1/2 feet tall and 59.8 kg when he enlisted. He had black hair with hazel coloured eyes and a dark skin complexion. His religious denomination was Church of England. Upon enlistment, Wyett was appointed to the 9th Light Horse Regiment.
Wyett embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT Geelong A2 on the 18th of November 1915. The A2 carried 1,362 soldiers including the 32nd infantry battalion and some reinforcements for other units. After disembarking all the men in Egypt, the Geelong sank as a result of a collision with another ship
On the 28th of December 1915 in Heliopolis, Wyett was taken on strength to the 9th Light Horse regiment
Between the 27th of February and the 24th of July 1917, Wyett was recorded to have been admitted to hospital twice. Both times after being discharged from hospital, he returned to duty.
He arrived on 28th of July 1917 in Abbessia, Egypt and later on the 11th of August 1917 Wyett was taken on strength out of the hospital to the 3rd regiment in Egypt
On the 19th of September 1917 as a soldier, Wyett transferred to the 9th light horse regiment from the 3rd light horse regiment
Between September 1917 (when Wyett was transported to the 9th LH regiment) and December 1917 he was involved in multiple military movements out of Abbassia, Port Said and Moascar resulting in multiple hospital stays. Ms Alice Wyett was informed of her son’s admission to hospital on the 26th of December that year
On the 29th of January 1918 Wyett was taken on strength to a rest camp in Moascar. One month later, on the 27th of February 1918 Wyett went back to the 9th light horse regiment
On the 20th of August 1918, Wyett was admitted to 31st general hospital in Abbassia, Egypt with malaria. The same year, on the 7th of September he was discharged from the hospital.
Wyett was promoted to corporal on the 17th May 1919. Wyett later received the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and The Victory Medal.
Wyett’s next of kin was told of Wyett’s returning to Australia on the 29th of June 1919 just 11 days before he embarked. On the 10th of July 1919 he embarked on the H.T Oxfordshire in Kantara, Egypt for early return. Wyett disembarked on the 10th of August from Egypt and was discharged from the military on the 3rd of November 1919 almost one year after the war ended.
