Leading Aircraftman Ellwyn Victor Doessel (Service No:150909) enlisted in the RAAF on 18 November 1943 at No 3 Recruiting Centre Brisbane as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Aircraft Hand, re mustered as Carpenter General. Ellwyn was born in Bundaberg QLD in 1925, only son and fourth of six children of Victor (Vic) Frederick Doessel (b1895 in Bundaberg, QLD) and Annise (Annie) Sarah Mackrill (b1899 in Yorkshire, England). Annie immigrated in 1908, arriving in Brisbane QLD with her parents and siblings on board the Omrah. Vic was a Farmer in Musgrave via Bundaberg in 1920 when he and Annie married in Bundaberg, where they settled and raised their family. Vic was a Farmer, Labourer and Motor Driver, and in the early 1940s Vic and Annie moved to Brisbane, where Vic worked as a Labourer.
Ellwyn completed a five year Apprenticeship as a Carpenter in Bundaberg (with AR Hooper Bundaberg) and in 1943 was a Carpenter's Assistant at Eagle Farm Airport in Brisbane with US Army Air Corps 81st Air Depot. Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Ellwyn settled in Brisbane, and was working as a Carpenter in 1958 when he married Phyllis Edith Hatchman (b1926 in Brisbane, QLD). Ellwyn and Phyllis settled in Brisbane, where Ellwyn worked as a Carpenter until his death in 1972 (NAA: Brisbane Legacy 1972). Phyllis died in 1974.
