Levi Norman Mason

Levi Norman Mason was born at Forest Range on the 13th September 1896. He was a blacksmith. Mason enlisted at Keswick on the 12th July 1915, aged 18, listing his next of kin as his father, Otho Benjamin Mason of Warooka on the Yorke Peninsula.
Mason joined the 54th Battery 14th Field Artillery Brigade and left Adelaide on board the Geelong on the 18th November and arrived at Suez on the 18th December. He then proceeded to Alexandria where he joined the B.E.F and was sent to Marseilles, France.
On the 13th February 1917 Mason was wounded in action, suffering a gunshot wound to the head, left arm and buttock. After receiving treatment at 9 Casualty Clearing Station in France he was sent from Rouen to England on H.S. St. Patrick
Mason was treated at London General Hospital for his injuries throughout March and April, then after having furlough, left England on board the Nestor on the 22nd July, arriving back in Australia on the 21st September. Mason was discharged as medically unfit on the 23rd October 1917.
