Biography

"MR W. G. FALL. MT MORGAN, July 19.

By the death of Mr William George Fall, in the Brisbane Hospital last week, Mt Morgan loses another of its old and respected citizens. Mr Fall who was 64 years of age, was born in England, and came to Mt Morgan with hie wife and family 29 years ago. He secured work with the late Mt Morgan Gold Mining Co. as a miner, and worked for the company up to the time of the Great War, when he enlisted for the front, and saw active service in France for two years. Returning to Mt Morgan after the war he gave up mining owing to miners' phthisis and the effects of the war. He took a great interest in the work of the Returned Soldiers' League and was the president of the local league for a number of years. It was whilst he was president that the splendid Mt Morgan Soldiers' Rooms were built. His wife, a member of the Pill family, predeceased him three years ago. Some six months ago Mr Fall became very ill, and he went to Brisbane for further medical treatment. He is survived by a daughter and three sons, Mrs H. Edwards, and Messrs George, Daniel, and Leslie Fall. The sons are all employees of Mt Morgan Ltd. Mr Fall was accorded a returned soldiers' funeral." - from the Central Queensland Herald 22 Jul 1937 (nla.gov.au)
