Section Officer Montolieu Eila Russell (Service No:350126) enlisted in the WAAF on 2 August 1941 and served as a Cypher and Section Officer. She was attached to 1 Embarkation Depot when she was Discharged on 5 May 1943.
Born in 1919 (BMD Vic Registration No:12950/1919) in Melbourne Victoria, Montolieu was the eldest of two children of Dr Hugh Lathrop Murray (b 1869 in Ararat, Victoria) and his second wife Eila Isabel Calvert (b 1883 in Bendigo, Victoria. Hugh (a Medical Practitioner) and Eila (a Nurse) married in 1918 in Melbourne, Victoria - both had served in WWI. The family lived in Melbourne, Victoria and following Hugh's death in 1929, Eila and her two children made several visits to England where they vistited Hugh's sons from his first marriage.
In 1942 Montolieu married Leslie (Peter) Gathorne Bedford Russell (b1914 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Peter was serving in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V363780). After the war, Montolieu and Peter settled in Melbourne, Victoria where Peter was a Metallurgist and then General Manager for Russell Manufacturing Co, before becoming Chief Engineer for Repco Ltd. Peter died in 1972 and Montolieu in 2004.
