Edna was the second of nine children of Edward Aubrey Christmass (b1895 in Northam, WA) and Minnie Smith Oliver (b1899 in Northam WA). Edward (aka Aubrey) was a Farmer at Grass Valley in Northam when he and Minnie married in 1920. The couple settled in Northam to raise their family.
In June 1941 Edna enlisted in the WRAAF (Service No:99854), stating 'I have never been away from home to work'. Edna, who had served as a Signals Clerk and RDF Operator, was an Aircraftwoman attached to 5 Embarkation Depot when she was Discharged in June 1942. In 1943 Edna married Albert William Polain (b1922 in Northam WA) - Albert was a Staff Sergeant (Service Nos:WX15738/W16083).
Edna and Albert settled in Northam WA where Albert worked as a Shop Assistant before returning to his pre-war work as a Dental Technician in the early 1950s. The couple lived in Merredin WA before moving to Perth, where Albert died in 1984. Edna then worked as a Bar Attendant and died in 2015.
