"Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Carr, of Eagle Farm, have received official information that their son, Lieut. Elwyne A. Carr, was killed in action on April 27. Lieut. Carr left Brisbane on May 30, 1916, with a machine gun section, and at the time of his death was an officer of a Lewis gun section. He was a member of the Brisbane Newspaper Company's mechanical staff when he enlisted, having served his apprenticeship as a letterpress machinist in the office." - from the Queenslander 25 May 1918 (nla.gov.au)
Biography
"Lieut. E. A. Carr was killed at about dusk on the evening of 27.4.18 whilst going from the front to the support line. He was walking overland when he was shot through the hand by an enemy sniper. He ran for cover but was fired at again, and hit in the chest, death being instantaneous. He was buried in the British Military Cemetery at BONNAY (Somme) and a cross was erected by this unit." - Sgd. W. Fearney. Lieut. 42nd Battalion, A.I.F. - SOURCE (recordsearch.naa.gov.au)
