Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of three siblings who served in WWII, Aircraftwoman Cynthia Clive Ross (Service No:178050) enlisted in the WAAAF on 3 May 1945 at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney - mustered as Drill Instructor - described in her Attestation Papers as a 'Good type. Has had experience in concert work. Keen on PT' (NAA). ACW Ross was attached to No 1 WAAAF Depot at Discharge on 17 October 1945.

Cynthia was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1923, third of five children of Robert James Ross (b1885 in Armidale, New South Wales) and Emily Rose Mary Symonds (b1892 in Albany, Western Australia). Robert completed a five year Apprenticeship in Yarloop, and was a Locomotive Fitter in 1911 when he and Emily married in Bunbury. The couple settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Robert was a Locotmotive Fitter until the 1930s, when he joined the Civil Service as an Inspector of Machinery. Robert enlisted in the AIF in 1916 (Private; Service No:3641), serving less than a fortnight before Discharge at the request of the Munitions Committee.

Cynthia worked as a Show Girl and Dance Band and Radio Vocalist in Inverell and Sydney before enlisting in the WAAAF. In 1946 in Sydney she married Henry (Harry) Reginald) Player (b1925 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Harry served in the RAAF (Service No:167586). Cynthia and Harry settled in Sydney, where Harry completed his medical studies at The University of Sydney, graduating in 1952 as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Cynthia and Harry lived in Sydney, Cargelligo and Griffiths, where Harry was a Medical Practitioner and Government Medical Officer. The couple divorced in the 1960s - Harry moved to Victoria where he remarried. Cynthia died in Perth in 2007.
