Eldest of seven siblings who served in WWII, Corporal Lawrence Hubert Dwyer (Service No:563338) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 25 May 1942 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Storekeeper, re mustered as Equipment Assistant. Leading Aircraftman Dwyer served in New Guinea with No 6 Squadron, and was a Corporal attached to 11 Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) at Discharge (on compassionate grounds) on 20 September 1945. Son Milton also served in the RAAF in WWII.

Lal was born at Strath Creek in Murrindindi, Victoria in 1901, eldest of ten children of Thomas Dwyer (b1874 at King Parrot Creek via Flowerdale, Victoria) and Flora Gillies McLean (b1883 at Riddell's Creek in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria). Thomas (a Farmer) and Flora married in 1901 in Melbourne, and lived in Yea, Strath Creek, Violet Town, Glenrowan and Wangaratta where they raised their family and Thomas was a Farmer, Wheat Buyer, General Commission Agent and Saw Mill Owner. Thomas had served with the 10th Light Horse Regiment, was a member of the Glenrowan Cricket Club and Captain of the Glenrowan Rifle Club.

In the 1920s Lal was a Labourer in Wodonga, and in 1924 in Melbourne married Rosa Henrietta Ehret (b1898 in Rutherglen, Victoria) - Rosa was working in Melbourne as a Typist. Lal and Rosa settled in Moama, New South Wales where they raised their family and Lal was a Sawmiller and, from the early 1930s Storekeeper (mixed perishable goods business). During his service in the RAAF, Rosa ran the store until Lal's Discharge. From the early 1950s Lal was a Clerk, and an Alderman until his death in 1959. Rosa died in 1998.
