Ena Messner was born in West Wyalong in 1921, the daughter of Charles Messner, a saddler, and Alice. In early 1943 while serving in the RAAF she married Flight Sergeant Allen Howard Wilson. A few weeks later her husband was sent to the USA for training, and then to Lincolnshire, England, where he joined 101 Squadron, Bomber Command. He was a Wireless Operator Air Gunner. On 18th March 1944 Ena's mother in law died in West Wyalong and twelve days later, her husband Flt Sgt Wilson was killed when his plane crashed in Welford, Berkshire, following a bombing raid over Nuremburg. There were no children of Ena's first marriage. She remarried the following year and had two children. Ena died aged 74 in Fairy Meadow, N.S.W.
