Corporal George Ross Aley (Service No:29859) enlisted in the RAAF on 10 February 1941 as an Aircraftman I at 4 Recruit Depot Pearce - he had previously served with the Citizens Forces in Garrison Artillery. Mustered initially as an Trainee Rigger, ACI Aley re-musteered as an Instrument Maker and served with 76 Squadron and OUT Mildura. Corporal Ross was attached to 12 Local Air Supply Unit when he Discharged on 28 November 1945.
Born in 1910 in Kalgoorlie WA, Ross was the youngest of two children of Harry John Aley (b1875 at Ballarat, Victoria) and Margaret Watson Ferguson (b1885 in Goodwood, South Australia). Harry (an Iron Moulder) and Margaret married in 1907 in Boulder WA and by 1916 had settled in Fremantle WA where they raised their two sons and Harry worked as an Iron Moulder - Margaret died in 1919.
Ross attended Fremantle Technical School and started work in Fremantle as a Blacksmith's Apprentice before joining Whittaker Bros in 1926 as an Apprentice Joiner. In 1941 in Perth, Ross married Dorothy (Dorrie) Frances Eldredge (b1915 in Perth, WA) - Dorrie was working in Perth as a Shop Assistant. Ross and Dorrie settled in Fremantle where Ross worked as a Carpenter and Joiner. He died in 1983 and Dorrie in 1998.
