Flying Officer John Frederick Parks (Service No:419212) served in the Militia (Private; Service No:18885570) with 39th Battalion from 7 October 1930 to 12 December 1932. On 17 July 1942 he enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman II - graded Clerk - then Leading Aircraftman. LAC Parks was attached to Nos 2 and 5 Fighter Sectors and 1 Fighter Wing before appointment as Pilot Officer on 9 October 1943. Pilot Officer Parks was attached to 102 Fighter Section and 207 Radar Station, and on 9 April 1944 was attached to 55 Operational Base Unit (OBU) Birdum in the Northern Territory when he was appointed Flying Officer. At Discharge on 17 April 1945, Flying Offier Parks was attached to 105 Fighter Sector. Brother  Raymond (Leading Aircraftman; Service No:53794) and sister Joan (Bombardier; Service No:VF388669) also served in WWII.

John was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1912, second (and eldest surviving) of four children of John (Jack) McAlpine Parks (b1890 in Horsham, Victoria) and Emily Ruby Sallery (b1891 in Melbourne, Victoria). Jack (a Hairdresser) and Emily married in 1910 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and Jack was a Hairdresser.

John started work as a Clerk (Law), and was a Real Estate Agent in 1938 in Melbourne when he married Jessie Wilson McKay (b1915 in Melbourne, Victoria). John and Jessie settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and John was a Real Estate Salesman and Agent. John died in 2008 and Jessie in 2014.
