Died on this date – 31st July…… Leslie Thomas Stevens was born at Waterloo, Victoria in 1893. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 15th March, 1916 as a 23 year old, single, Farm Labourer from Beaufort, Victoria.

Private Leslie Thomas Stevens, Service number 1711, embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 27th May, 1916 & disembarked at Devonport, England on 18th July, 1916.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
On 27th July, 1916 Private Stevens was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire suffering from Influenza.

Private Leslie Thomas Stevens died at 10.20 a.m. on 31st July, 1916 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire from Pneumonia.

He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
