Son of Myles Quinlan and Anne Quinlan of 'Kyogle', Chandos Street, North Sydney, NSW. Brother of Martin Joseph Quinlan who returned to Australia on 4 September 1919 having served with the 53rd Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia 13 December 1918 aboard HS Karoola disembarking on 31 January 1919
