Leading Aircraftman Arthur Fitzgerald Swinson (Service No:74706) initially served in the Militia (Gunner; Service No:481536) with 1 Field Brigade in 1939, prior to enlisting in the RAAF on 29 December 1942 as an Aircraftman I at No 2 Recruitng Centre Sydney - mustered as Clerk. LAC Swinson served in Mortai and Balikapan with 2 Airfield Construction Squadron and No 38 Operational Base Unit (15 April 1945 - 30 January 1946), and was attached to 38 Operational Base Unit (OBU) at Discharge on 20 March 1946.

Born in Manildra, NSW in 1912, Arthur was second of four children of Arthur Fitzgerald Swinson Snr (b1868 in Northamptonshire, England) and his second wife Ida Elizabeth Miller (b1882 in Molong, NSW). Arthur Snr arrived in Sydney in 1895 on board the Monowai, and was an Accountant with the City Bank in Bowral in 1894. He married his first wife in 1987 in Sydney, and was Manager of the City Bank in Manildra (and an Honorary Magistrate and Justice of the Peace) in 1909 when he and Edith divorced. Arthur Snr and Ida married in Sydney in 1910, and lived in Manildra and Kemspey, where Arthur Snr was Manager of the City Bank until his death in 1937.

Arthur joined the Bank of NSW in 1929, working as a Bank Officer and Teller in Merriwa, Dorrigo and Bigga via Tuena before returning to Coogee in Sydney following his father's death. Arthur lived with his mother in Coogee until her death in 1977, working as a Bank Clerk until retirement in 1980. Arthur died in 1999.
