Ron trained at Signals School, Point Cook & Shepparton Victoria
Postings included: Point Cook, Bradfield Park, Townsville, Horn Island, Higgins Field Ransford.
He volunteered for a flight mission over New Guinea, despite orders from home that he was not to venture overseas.
Due to his mother's ill health, he requested to be discharged. Ron was an only child and was devoted to his Mother.
Note: The spelling of Ronald's surname changed from MacDermott to McDermott on the enlistment papers.
