Son of George Samuel TEASDALE and Margaret Dore nee DUNBAR (both deceased before the war)
Though he was an only son, Private James Teasdale enlisted because he felt that his country needed him. He was killed in action in November last, aged 27. Before enlisting he lived with Mr. William Watson, his uncle, near Traralgon.
He Gave His Life for His Country
PRIVATE J. TEASDALE
On Thursday afternoon last telegram was received by the Rev. James Smith of Traralgon, stating that Private James Teasdale late of Traralgonn, South dale was killed on active service on November 9. Mr. R. Canfield took the message to Mr W. Watson of Traralgon South, uncle of the deceased soldier and at the same time expressed his sympathy with them in their bereavement.
Mr and Mrs Watson adopted the boy when an infant on the death of his mother who was a sister of Mrs Watson and Messrs D.J. and Peter Dunbar, and he resided with them until the time he volunteered at the age of 26 years.
Private Teasdale is another of Traralgon boys who have laid down their life for the Empire. He sailed for Egypt on 29th Sep tember 1915, and went to France about April last, with one of the first contingents. He had been in a number of engagements including Pozieres and in his letters home referred to the severe fighting and also expressed a wish that more reinforcements would be sent so that they could have a rest. Most of his mates were either killed or wounded. Mr Watson's son who is also in France, saw Private Teasdale frequently.
TEASDALE.—In loving memory of our dear nephew and cousin Jim, Private James Teasdale, killed in action in France, Nov. 9, 1916: —
In a hero's grave he's lying
Somewhere in France he fell.
Little we thought when we parted,
It would be our last farewell.
Inserted by his loving uncle, aunt and cousins, Mr and Mrs W. Watson and family.
