A nineteen year old Farm Hand at Mt Ulva in Old Bonalbo NSW, Tom enlisted in the RAAF in November 1941 (Service No:61411; Aircraftman 1) and was a Corporal attached to 5 Operational Training Unit when he Disharged in January 1946.

Thomas (Tom) McKenzie was born in 1919 in Casino NSW, the eleventh child of George Mills (b1872 in Omigal, NSW) and ELizabeth Jane Hamilton (b1880 in Parkes, NSW). George (a Labourer) and Elizabeth married in 1901 in Wellington nr Dubbo NSW. By 1920 they were living in Old Bonalbo, NSW where George was a Dairy Farmer at Acacia Creek, George and Elizabeth retired to Brisbane QLD in the mid 1950s.

Tom followed four of his siblings into military service in WWII and in 1947 in Casino NSW married Ellen Margaret Morrissey (b1927 in Casino, NSW). Tom and Ellen lived in Mt Ulva in Old Bonalbo and Woodburn where Tom worked as a Farm Hand and Labourer. In the mid 1950s Tom was a Farmer at Ellangowan near Casino NSW before the family relocated to Casino where Tom was a Labourer and Quarry Worker. Tom died in 2003 and Ellen in 2013.
