Gordon was the son of Emily Spittle and John Wearne. He married Amy Joyce Evans and when his daughter was born in 1942, in the family notices he is referred to as LAC. Electoral rolls show him as living in Victoria, and in the 1930s employed as an engineer. Later his occupatoin is listed as 'Traveller'. Both he and Amy appear on the electoral rolls until at least 1977 in Victoria, Australia
