Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Leslie Allen landed on Gallipoli with the 28th Battalion during September 1915. He was soon promoted to Corporal and Sergeant. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant during August 1916 and Lieutenant early in 1917.

Lieutenant Leslie George Allen was mentioned in despatches 'For consistently good work as commander, and Lewis Gun officer. He has shown splendid devotion to duty,' during late February 1917.

He was soon after awarded a Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 2 March 1917. He organized a bombing attack at a critical time, and succeeded in capturing the enemy's position. He set a splendid example of courage and initiative.'

He was appointed Battalion Adjutant during July 1918 and was promoted to Captain before the end of the war. He later served during WW2 as WX11183 and retained his WW1 rank.

His younger brother, 3348 Corporal Horace Beresford Allen, 52nd Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Mouquet Farm during 1916.
