Flight Lieutenant Noel Leon Hatton (Service No:415252) enlisted in the RAAF on 17 August 1941 at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Air Crew. He sets a good example to junior instructors and is popular at all times with his fellows. He has taken a keen interest in unit activities' (NAA; 1945).
Noel was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1922, second of three children of Herbert Sydney Hatton (b1892 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Jessie May Mackey (b1893 in Sydney, New South Wales). Herbert (a permanent Soldier) and Jessie married in 1916 in Sydney, New South Wales. Herbert served in both WWI and WWII, and was a Lieutenant in 1917 when he and Jessie settled in Perth, Western Australia. Herbert served in the Army as a Lieutenant and Captain, and was a Supervisor with the Department of Defence Physical Training Staff and an Investigator with the Department of Repatriation.
Noel was working for the Taxation Department as a Clerk when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1941, and in 1943 in Hobart, Tasmania he married Fay Elizabeth Howard (b1923 in Hobart, Tasmania). Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1945, Noel and Fay settled in Perth, where Noel returned to work with the Taxation Department. In the early 1950s Noel and Fay moved to Tasmania, where they raised their family and Noel worked as a Taxation Consultant and Farmer, and was an Aero Club Instructor.
