Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Joseph George and Louisa Josephine Ross, of Olympia House, Mitchell Street, Bendigo, Victoria.

PRESENTATION TO A SOLDIER.
A most enjoyable time was spent last Monday evening at the residence of Mrs. Ross, 181 Neale-street, on the occasion of a farewell to her son, Corporal Joseph Francis Ross, of  the A.A.M.C., who has been engaged on military duties at the Base Hospital for the past 18 months, but who has now joined the 6th reinforcements to the 37th Battalion, and  leaves for the front soon. A large number of friends assembled to wish him good-bye. The tables were nicely decorated with red white and blue flags and flowers. The toast of “The King” was proposed by Mr. J. Badham, and Mr. Rovedatti proposed the health of the young soldier, who was presented with a Bible by his mother. He received numerous other presents from his brother, sisters and friends. At the close of the proceedings all joined in singing the National Anthem.

ROSS.-Killed in action in France, 4th October, 1917, Private Joseph Francis Ross, despatch carrier, 37th Battalion, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ross, 12 Skene-street, Bendigo.
Honor and glory he has earned,
Wealth and comfort ho had spurned,
To give his life at duty's call,
Beloved by comrades, one and all.
May his sweet peace be there.
