12 Jun 1945: | Honoured Distinguished Flying Cross, Middle East / Mediterranean Theatre, Citation reads: F/O Scotland has attacked many well defended targets in Romania, Southern Germany, Bulgaria, Austria, France and Yugoslavia. He has proved to be a most reliable captain of aircraft, that have always pressed home attacks despite enemy groundfire and air defences. By his outstanding ability and fine airmanship. this officer has made a valuable contribution to the successes achieved by his squadron in Italy. In March 1945, when detailed for an attack on Casarsa railway sidings, his aircraft was damaged when flying at low altitude to identify the small target, but despite this, Flying Officer SCOTLAND successfully completed his allocated task. | |
