James joined the RAAF to serve his country. Post war he became a carpenter and went on to become a Public Works supervisor. Sadly he was killed in a car accident in 1966 leaving behind his wife Marie and his two children Ron and Roslyn. James took part in Anzac Day marches but never spoke at length about his war service. He was known as gentleman Jim to many, because of his kind nature. James had a great love of dogs. He had a wonderful contagious laugh and was loved and missed by his family.
