Harry was the eldest of three children of Harry Cecil Hilton (b1891 in London, England) and Bridget Ellen Cullen (b1887 in Blakeville, Victoria). Harry Snr was a Fitter when he arrived in Albany WA in 1913 on board the Afric. Bridget's family moved to WA in the late 1890s and she and Harry Snr married in Perth WA in 1915. Harry Snr and Bridget lived in Mundaring WA where Harry Snr worked as an Engineer.

Harry was a Mill Assistant with Lake View and Star Co in Kalgoorlie WA when he enlisted in the RAAF in May 1941 (Aircraftman 1; Service No:38776). He was a Leading Aircraftman attached to 3 Replenishing Centre when he was Discharged in January 1946.

Harry commenced working for the WA Government Railways (WAGR) and in 1947 married Eileen Mary White (b1927 in Goomalling, WA) in Northam. Harry and Eileen lived in Doodlakine, Donnybrook and Wongan Hills before settling in Fremantle WA, Harry worked for WAGR as a Porter and Guard, and died in 1980. Eileen died in 2015.
