Corporal Alfred Frederick Hopkins (Service No:44011) served in the RAN Reserves as an Able Seaman (1 July 1925 - 13 July 1928), the Militia (Private; Service No:221763 attached to 11th Field Brigade) and the ACMF (Private; Service No:Q11809) before enlisting in the RAAF on 15 December 1941 as an Aircraftman 1. He served with Nos 1 and 7 Repair and Servicing Units (RSU), at HQ Darwin attached to No 4 Squadron and was a Corporal attached to No 4 Repair and Servicing Unit at Discharge on 14 December 1945.

Born in 1907 in London England, Alfred was the fifth of seven children of Frederick Charles Hopkins (b1876 in Essex, England) and Nellie Oliver (b1876 in Essex, England). Frederick (a House Painter and Decorator) and Nellie married in 1896 in Essex where Frederick worked as a House Painter and Decorator and Nellie as a Launderess and Hawker until her death in 1913. Following Nellie's death, Frederick immigrated with his six surviving children in 1915, arriving in Brisbane QLD on board the Roscommon. Frederick and his children settled in Brisbane, where Frederick was a House Painter.

Alfred completed an Apprenticeship as a Carpenter in Brisbane and was living in Brisbane in 1934 when he married Ellen Hoey (b1906 in Durham, England) - Ellen had immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1911, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Ayrshire. Alfred and Ellen settled in Brisbane, where Alfred worked as a Carpenter, Truck Driver and Carpenter and served with the RAN Reserves, Militia and ACMF before his service in the RAAF. The couple retired to Paradise Point on the Gold Coast in the early 1970s, where Alfred died in 1978 and Ellen in 1995.
