Born in Ipswich, Qld., John MacDonald enlisted on 12 Feb 1915 with the 5th Light Horse just shy of his 38th Birthday. John was also a Boer War Veteran who was number 70 in the Queensland Mounted Infantry and also number 939 in the Australian Commonwealth Corps and awarded QSA with 3 bars. Discharged 26th December 1919 and died in a veteran’s hospital in Caboolture 1960
