Sergeant Frederick George Mason (Service No:46431) enlisted in the RAAF on 29 January 1942 as an Aircraftman I at 4 Recruiting Centre Perth - mustered as Postal Assistant. He had previously served four years (1920 - 1924) as a Private with Citizens Forces. Promoted through the ranks to Sergeant, he served with 4 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) Geralton, 6 and 9 RAAF Postal Units and 76 Operational Base Unit (OBU - Postal Clerk). Sergeant Mason was attached to 9 RAAF Postal Unit at Discharge on 23 November 1945.

Born in 1906 in Cannington WA, Fred was seventh of eleven children of Frank Ernest Hamblin Mason (b1872 in Canning, WA) and Lucy Waldron (b1879 in New Zealand). Frank (a Farmer and Contractor) and Lucy married in 1894 in Canning, WA where they settled and raised their family. Frank served in WWI (Private; Service No:974) and worked as a Farmer, Contractor and for Boans and the Post Master Generals Department in the Mail Room and as a Cleaner.

Fred started work with the Post Master Generals Department as a Telegraph Messenger and was a Postal Clerk in 1929 when he married Lillian (Lily) May Beer (b1906 in Boulder, WA). Fred and Lily settled in Cannington where Fred worked for the Postmaster Generals Department as a Postal Clerk and, following his Discharge from the RAAF, as a Postman. Fred died in 1985 and Lily in 1992.
