Biography contributed by Daryl Jones

Lyrian was a member of the RAAF Nursing Services during WW2, having enlisted in August 1942, SN 501285. She completed her nursing training at Sydney Hospital in 1940 and was living with her parents in Granite Street, Port Macquarie, at the time of her enlistment. Based on written reports about her performance et al from her RAAFNS commanding officer, Lyrian was one of their best. Her defence force records note that her "appointment was terminated on grounds of marriage" on 23/10/1945. She married Kevin Joseph Carrucan in Chatswood, NSW, that day.

Lyrian is buried by herself and under her original surname Kirton, not Carrucan. Despite what seem to be a few spelling errors on her gravestone, it shows they had three boys together, being Anthony, Dale (died 2018), and Lindsay (1950-2018 NSW).

CARRUCAN-KIRTON.-The Engagement is announced of Sister Lyrian Jean Kirton, R.A.A.F. Nursing Service, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Kirton, of Port Macquarie, to Flying-Officer Kevin Joseph Carrucan (R.A.A.F.), only son of Mrs. A. R. Carrucan and the late James Carrucan, of St. Kilda, Victoria.
