Aircraftman I Noel William Moss (Service No:41693) initially served in the Militia (Private; Service No:318895) with 8 Field Brigade from 28 August 1938 to 16 April 1940. He enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 7 July 1941, and was attached to 1 School of Technical Training at Discharge (medically unfit for further service) on 9 December 1941. Brother Keith served in the Army in WWII.
Noel was born in St Andrew/Queenstown, Victoria (erroneously recorded on his Attestation Papers as Tasmania) in 1920, second of four children of William (Ernie) Ernest Moss (b1897 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Olive (Dolly) Maud Lambert (b1894 in Nhill, Victoria). Ernie (a Labourer) and Dolly (a Lady's Help) married in 1916 at Diamond Creek, and lived in Melbourne, Diamond Creek and St Andrew/Queenstown, where they raised their family and Ernie was a Labourer.
Noel was working as a Printer/Compositor for Modern Printing Coy in Melbourne when he enlisted in the Militia in 1938. He was a Printer in 1942 in Melbourne when he married Joyce Lillian Crawford (b1924 in Melbourne, Victoria). Noel and Joyce settled in Melbourne, where Noel worked as a Printer and Sales Manager until his death in 1961. Joyce later remarried died in 2009.
