Richard Broughton HACKETT was born in April, 1882 in Whitton, Riverina, New South Wales
His parents were Charles Broughton HACKETT who was born in Tasmania and Mary Augustine McGONIGLE who was born in Ireland - they married in Adelaide, South Australia on 28th April, 1879
He had one son James Broughton HACKETT who was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1914 - mother Elizabeth Jane WATTS
He enlisted in Liverpool, NSW on 16th May, 1915 and embarked with the 17th Infantry Battalion, 2nd reinforcements on the transport ship Suffolk
Richard died from wounds in France on 1st March, 1917 and is buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery and his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

His son James Broughton HACKETT (SN NX45541) served during WW2 in the Australian Army - he was discharged in 1945
