Arthur Albert Erwin left Australia in early 1917. He joined the 34th Battalion on the Western Front during September 1917 and was slightly wounded in Belgium a little over a month later.
He was reported to have been hit by a machine gun bullet on 30 March 1918, and died of wounds the next day in the 41st Casualty Clearing Station. He was only 19 years of age.
His older brother, 1339 Pte. William Mathew Erwin 13th Battalion AIF, had died of wounds in Belgium on 17 October 1917, aged 20. They were the sons of William John and Rose Erwin of Armidale, New South Wales.
