Leading Aircraftman John William Sheringham (Service Nos:A25089/166946) served in the RAAF with 8 Stores Depot from 2 January 1945 to 16 May 1946. Grandfather John Thomas (Lance Corporal; Service No:2151) served in WWI and father John Alfred (Corporal; Service No:NG2109) served in WWII.
Jack was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1926 to John Alfred Sherringham (b1904 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Kathleen O'Reilly (b1905 in Beaconsfield, Tasmania). John worked as a Draftsman in Sydney, where in 1926 he and Kathleen married. Kathleen settled in Sydney and John worked in New Guinea as a Mining Engineer, serving with the New Guinea Volunteer Rifles (NGVR) until 1942 when he returned to Sydney. By the late 1940s John was working in New Guinea again as a Mining Engineer until retirement in the late 1960s.
Jack joined the Public Service as a Clerk before enlisting in the RAAF, In 1946 in Sydney he married Jean Minnie Kohn (b1925 in Charters Towers, QLD) - Jean was a Telephonist in Charters Towers. In 1948 Jack worked at Mt Isa Mines in QLD as a Clerk and Jean worked in Charters Towers as a Telephonist. In 1949 Jack joined the Public Service, and he and Jean settled in Sydney where they raised their family. Jean worked as a Typist and Secretary and Jack as a Clerk with the Department of Air, Department of Supply and Department of Manufacturing and Industry until retirement in 1975. Jack and Jean retired to Bowraville via Nambucca Heads, and had recently moved to Charters Towers, QLD when Jack died in 2003. Jean died in 2008.
