Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Born in Kalgoorlie WA in 1919, Bonna was the youngest child of James (Jim) Miller Crawford (b1881 in Durham Lead, Victoria) and Mary (May) Ann Beaton (b1881 in Ballarat, Victoria). Jim (a Gold Miner) and May married in 1912 in Coolgardie WA, where they settled and raised their family. Jim had arrived on the WA Goldfields in 1895, having travelled by foot (pushing a barrow)from Southern Cross with his father. Jim worked as a Miner before going into partnership with his father (who had established a Baker's Shop and a Spirit Store) in Gold Mines.

Bonna was educated, with her siblings, by governesses at Carbine before boarding at Methodist Ladies' College in Perth. She was working as an Assistant Secretary in Coolgardie WA in March 1942 when she enlisted in the WRAAF. Bonna served as a Corporal (Service No:9481) and was attached to 6 Service Flying Training School Mullala when she was Discharged in February 1946.

Working as a Typist in Perth WA, Bonna married Arthur (Slom) Keith Sunter (b1905 in Perth WA) in 1950. Keith (a Widower) had been in the WA Police Force since the 1920s - posted in regional WA (Kalgoorlie, Morowa and Narrogin). Bonna and Slom lived in Geraldton WA - where Keith was an Inspector - before settling in Perth in 1963. Bonna died in 1964 and Slom in 1971.
