Leading Aircraftman Percy Leonard Joyce (Service No:81325) enlisted in the RAAF on 18 July 1942 at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Driver Motor Transport (DMT). ACI Joyce was attached 25 Squadron and 4 Medical Receiving Station (MRS) Pearce. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 18 January 1943, he served with Transport and Movement Office (T&MO), and at Birdum in the Northern Territory with 55 and 54 Operational Base Units (OBU). LAC Joyce was attached to 9 Stores Depot at Discharge on 6 March 1945.
Percy was born in Essex, England in 1900, elder of two children of John Frederick Joyce (b1876 in Essex, England) and Mary Emma Jones (b1878 in Warwickshire). John started work as a Kitchen Boy, and was a Gardener in 1899 when he and Mary married in Warwickshire. John and Mary settled in Essex, where John was a Gardener when he and Mary immigrated in the mid 1900s. In 1910 John was a Gardener in Katanning, Western Australia, and by 1913 the family had settled at Marbellup via Albany, where John was a Dairy Farmer..
Percy worked as a Farm Labourer at Morbellup and Torbay via Albany, then in the 1930s as a Motor Driver in Perth. By 1939 he had returned to Torbay, where he was a Farm Manager/Dairy Farmer in partnership with his father at Torbay via Albany in 1940 when he married Mabel (Rose) Ethel Gannaway (b1905 in Albany, Western Australia) - Rose was living on the family farm at Bornholm via Albany. Following his Discharge from the RAAF, Percy and Rose settled in Torbay via Albany, where they raised their family and Percy was a Dairy Farmer until his death in 1955. Rose died in 1991.
