Died of Wounds suffered in the attack on Lone Pine

Willie Wilson was born in Ballarat in 1892. He enlisted in Sydney with the 1st Battalion on 24 August 1914 and was given service number 351. He was 22 and had previously worked as a labourer.

He embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT A19 Afric on 18 October 1914. He was a member of C Company. He was wounded in the initial landing at Gallipoli sometime between 25th and 29th April. He was transported to Egypt, where he was admitted to Heliopolis's No.1 General Hospital. On 1 May, he was transferred to No. 2 General Hospital. He moved to the convalescent camp at Helouan on 27 May 1915. On 6 August 1915, he returned to Gallipoli in time to take part in the charge at Lone Pine. On 8 August, he was admitted to the No.2 Light Horse Field Ambulance, suffering a bomb wound to his eyes. He died of wounds received in action on 8 August 1915

Post-war, his remains were exhumed and re-interred in the Lone Pine Cemetery.
