Leading Aircraftman Sydney Hillier (Service No:7737) enlisted in the RAAF on 6 August 1942 as an Aircraftman 1 attached to No 1 Bombing and Air Gunnery School (BAGS) Evans Head - mustered as a Guard. On 6 February 1943 he was promoted to LAC and was attached to 36 Radar Station Hammond Island. LAC Hillier was attached to 3 Stores Depot at Discharge on 26 February 1946.

Born in 1910 in Brisbane QLD, Syd was a Soda Dispenser in Brisbane in 1934 when he married Joyce Olga Donnelly (b1911 in Brisbane, QLD) - Joyce was a Waitress. Syd and Joyce settled in Brisbane, QLD where Syd worked as a Barman/Steward before enlisting in the RAAF in 1942. Following his Discharge in 1946, Syd returned to Brisbane where he worked as a Barman, and following Joyce's death in 1947, Syd remarried in the early 1950s - Ellen Josephine Reuter (nee Wilson; b1905 in Brisbane, QLD) - Ellen was working as a Packer. Syd and Ellen lived in Brisbane where Syd worked as a Barman, Labourer and French Polisher. Syd died in 1974 and Ellen in 1986.
