Reg was the second of three children of Maurice Ethelbert Cook (b1884 in Leichardt, NSW) and Madeline Mary Golding (b1894 in Perth, WA). Maurice (a Farmer) and Madeline married in 1923 in Perth WA. Maurice had served in WWI (Trooper; Service No:3663) and worked in Carnamah WA as a Farmer and Commission Agent. Madeline did not want to leave Perth WA, and Maurice worked in Geraldton (Carpenter with WAGR) and Esperance (Engine Driver) before settling in Perth in 1943. Maurice and Madeline divorced in 1942 and both remarried. Maurice lived in Perth WA where he was a Munitions Worker/Inspector.

Reg was an Apprentice Panel Beater in Perth WA when he enlisted in the RAAF in July 1943. he was a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:83461) attached to 24 Squadron when he was Discharged in February 1946.

Reg settled back in Leederville, Perth WA, living with his mother and working as a Panel Beater. In 1950 Reg married Dorothy Mabel Straker (b1928 in Bassendean WA) and the couple settled in Perth where Reg worked as a Panel Beater. Dorothy died in 1979 and Reg in 2003.
