Benjamin was one of four sons of Benjamin and Jane Owens of Collingwood, Victoria, who served in the AIF during WW1. Benjamin’s older brother, 1716 Pte. John Henry William Owens, 21st Battalion AIF, had been killed in action at Mouquet Farm during 1916, aged 33.
Two other brothers Emil Owens 6th Battalion and David Owens 13th Light Horse Regiment returned to Australia in 1919.
