Flight Lieutenant Alan Edwin Lee (Service No:418284) enlisted in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Guard and attended No 8 Elementary Training School (ETS) Narranderra, No 2 Air Navigation School (ANS), No 2 Initial Training School (ITS) Bradfield Park and No 8 Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS). In April 1943 he embarked from for San Francisco en route to Canada where he was a Pilot Officer attached to No 1 General Reconnaissance School (GRS), No 14 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) Ontario, and then with the RAF at 79 Operational Training Unit (OTU) Nicosia. Promoted to Flying Officer, in 1944/1945, he served in the Middle East and India with 603 Squadron and 22 Squadron. Flight Lieutenant Lee flew Bisley, Tiger Moth, Harvard, Oxford, Blenheim V and Beaufort aircraft and was attached to No 22 Squadron at Discharge on 16 February 1946. In 1948 he served with the RAAF Reserves - General Duties Branch.

Alan was born in Horsham, Victoria in 1922, second of four children of Edwin (Eddie) Lee (b1888 in Horsham, Victoria) and Ruby Ethel Laing (b1892 in Jeparit, Victoria). Eddie (a Farmer) and Ruby (a Dressmaker) married in 1919 in Jeparit and lived in Nhill, Horsham and Lismore where Eddie was a Farmer/Grazier. Eddie served with the ACMF in WWII.

Alan worked as a Clerk for the AMP Society prior to his enlistment in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, he was a Grazier in Lismore in 1950 when he married Beverly Ann Morrish (b1928 in Lismore, Victoria). Alan and Beverly settled in Lismore where they raised their family and Alan was a Grazier. Alan died in 1995 and Beverly in 2017.
