Flying Officer William Sutherland Molesworth (Service No:411800) had served with 1st Mobile Vet Corps and Citizen Air Force prior to enlisting in the RAAF on 25 May 1941 at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney as an Aircraftman II. Promoted to Flight Sergeant, he was attached to the RCAF in Halifax (16 October 1941 - 14 March 1942) with No 1 SFTS Camp Borden and No 1 'Y' Depot Halifax. Based in England (RAF) from 14 March 1942 to 16 January 1945 as a Pilot Officer and Flying Officer, he was attached to 5 SFTS (Trans) on Termination of Appointment on 2 October 1945. Sister Nancy served in the AWAS in WWII, and both parents (Cecil and Connie) served in WWI.
Bill was born in Nowra, New South Wales in 1921, youngest of two children of Dr Cecil Stanley Molesworth (b1888 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Constance (Connie) Elizabeth Kendall (b1890 in Dorset, England). Cecil (a Medical Practioner) and Connie (a Nursing Sister) married in 1917 in Cairo, Egypt - both were on active service (Bill with the AIF and Connie with the Australian Army Nursing Service). Following their Discharges from the the Army, Cecil and Connie lived in Nowra, Leeton and Sydney, where Cecil was a Medical Practitioner until his death in 1943.
Bill was a student at Hawkesbury Agricultural College in 1941, and following his Discharge worked in Sydney as a Youth Organiser. In Sydney in 1945 Bill married Mabel (May) Wilmott Heskett (b1921 in Sydney, New South Wales) - May was a Stenographer. In the late 1940s Bill and May moved to Hernani via Dorrigo, where they raised their family and Bill was a Farmer/Grazier. In the late 1970s the couple relocated to Armidale, where Bill was a Company Director and May was Secretary, later moving to Yamba. Bill died in 2005 and May in 2017.
