Edgar was the fourth of eight children of Isaac Smith (b1879 in Geraldton, WA) and Amelia Victoria Okely (b1884 in Northampton, WA). Isaac (a Baker's Assistant) and Amelia married in 1904 in Geraldton WA where they settled and Isaac worked as Baker. Following Edgar's death from Tuberculosis (TB) in 1922, Amelia moved to Perth WA in the 1930s.
Edgar was working as a Hairdresser in Geraldton WA in 1930 when he married Amelia (Millie) Rogers (b1908 in Worcestershire, England) - Millie was a Waitress when she immigrated, arriving in Fremantle WA in 1927 on board the Bendigo. Millie was not happy living in Geraldton - and according to Divorce Papers, was not happy being married. Edgar gave up his job in Geraldton and moved to Perth in 1937 at Millie's request - however Millie moved to Kalgoorlie and Edgar returned to Geraldton. Edgar was in Perth WA in 1940 when he Divorced Millie, and in 1942 he married Rachel Belle Dyson (b1910 in Fremantle, WA) - Rachel was a Barmaid.
In June 1942 Edgar enlisted in the RAAF and was a Corporal (Service No:81076) attached to 43 Squadron when he was Discharged in January 1946.
Edgar and Rachel settled in Perth WA where Edgar worked as a Hairdresser until his death in 1988. Rachel died in 2011.
