John Cruice Kenman aged 19 when he enlisted, son of Jessie Gray Kenman, New Zealand. He was living at Laceys Creek and working as a farmer when he enlisted on 2 November 1917 at Brisbane. He returned to Australia, he married Agnes Mary Costelloe at Brisbane in 1921. They lived at Laceys Creek.

Commenced return to Australia on 3 May 1919 aboard HT Leicestshire disembarking on the 23 June 1919
